Eastern Boarder Presents Street Games
at Waterville Valley

On Saturday and Sunday, January 28 (snowboard) & 29 (ski), 2012 Waterville Valley Resort and New England’s favorite shop EB will officially unveil Waterville's brand new South Street Terrain Park. This park is the brainchild of Terrain Park Manager Luke Mathison and his creative staff. The overall purpose of this park is for riders to have a place where the focus is on learning and progression without huge consequence. The Street Games event will be three 30-minute jam sessions per division. First off will be the Slingshot section where a 20ft Banshee Bungee will be setup for competitors to use. Second will be roll the dice where judges will be rolling the custom die and calling tricks at random. Third will be the creation station where judges will be looking for the most unique lines and use of the features. Building has begun on a new Red Bull signature feature for the event as well. There will be no teasers on what the feature will be so you'll just have to come to the event. This won’t be your typical contest format with over critical judging and mandated structure. It will be more of a controlled chaos with a focus on creativity,style and fun. Competitors will be awarded prizes from a very heavy sponsor list including: EB, Oakley, Red Bull, Foursquare, Forum, Special Blend, Coal and Banshee Bungee during each sections session at random for exemplary style. There will be one overall winner from each division at the conclusion of the event.

Format: 30 min jam for each division per section.
1st section: Banshee Bungee Slingshot
2nd Section: Roll the dice
3rd Section: Creation Station

Registration:
8-10am at Event Yurt
Event will start at 10:30am
Price: $10 per competitor *Discounted lift tickets available at registration. *

Fall Brawl 2011 is over. The skate contest was absolutely nuts! Here are the results:

These guys all destroyed it and it was very hard to pick the top four! Other contests like the Thunder Best Trick, Orchard's Best Trick, Spongie's High Nollie Contest (Pat Hickey took it all the way to 29 inches!), and the Analog Game of SKATE,all took place as well and we have some photo and video coverage coming asap! So it is finally here again, The Fall Brawl! Three Days of Skate Contests and a day of Bike mayhem (see EBMX for the info on that)! We have a full schedule this year and everybody should come check it out at the Seaport World Trade Center in Boston during the expo. Thursday we have the Analog Game of Skate which is sure to be rad, $250 bucks is going to be handed out to the winner and other prizes. On Friday we have an Eastern Boarder Team Demo, a RAW team demo, a High NOLLIE Contest presented by Spongie and Concepts with $500 in prizes and a Best Trick Contest presented by Orchard! Then finally on Saturday we have a Thunder Best Trick contest at noon and then at 3pm The Fall Brawl with $2500 in prizes! The Fall Brawl is invite only so there is sure to be some shredding from the areas best skateboarders! Be There!

So the game of SKATE happened the other day at Beverly skatepark, the sky was overcast and it was a little damp but a bunch of kids still came out so we could get this stop done! In the end all of the games were rad and these three guys came out on top; Matt Lane (right, grey) came in third, Richard Stickney (left, green) came in second, and Matt Jay won it. We held a little BBQ today at high-noon before a Longboarding event. Here is Chris playing master chef, manning the grill and making sure people were all jacked up on hot dogs and gatorade and ready to get slidey.

The obligatory group photo shot in front of the shop, these guys were stoked to get out there! Some of them even early grabbed the set, they couldn't even wait for the hills.

About a week ago Al and Mikey from El Scarehouse packed up for a cross-country journey with no return date. They've been making their way through the northern route through Michigan, Chicago, Wisconsin, and the like.

This guy can kickflip back smith a waist high bench and do the craziest flip-in flip-out combo tricks like nothing, the only catch is the constant rolling down the windows... Don't get me wrong, Torey is insanely good and he seems like a nice guy but I'd rather watch him go the Westgate route and do simple tricks than do a whole bunch of lipslide variations and look like a whacky-waving-inflatable-arm-flailing-toobman.

The new Mike Carroll shoe is rad, fits like a glove and looks amazing. Killer boardfeel.

I am super psyched on this shoe. Marc Johnson's 6th pro model is a slimmed down cupsole shoe in all black that is built to last. Marc Johnson is one of the best ever, this shoe may just be his best yet as well. Check out a pair asap.

Another blacked-out shoe for summer? So rad. The re-emergence of the Manchester is a glad day for every skateboarder. One of the best shoes ever got a little facelift, better fit, better sole, but still feels just like the classic. This shoe rules.

The Arto shoe by Gravis is soo good. I have skated 3 pairs of this shoe at the point, on my fouth now and I can safely say that this shoe is well worth your money. Slim fit at first that breaks in and forms to your feet and feels incredible, a nice deep tread on the sole to make sure it doesn't go bald quickly and no stitching on the toe to blow out, so good.

Okay, so you know those songs that are so bad they are good? The song for the first five minutes of this video is like that except it is horrible. More painful than funny. Anyways, you can just mute it for five minutes... On the upside, this video has the best coverage of the event by far and once you get past the crime against humanity that is that Wal-Mart song it is smooth sailing. As far as results go Evan Smith absolutely wrecked it and won the Am contest, in the pros 1st place was Lutzga and 2nd was Busenitz. Good contest minus all of the kooky shit that goes along with these type of big contest, worth a watch.

Got a new colorway of the TNT shoe, classic black and white, can't go wrong here. If you like Old Schools but want a little more support and durability check these out, you won't be disappointed.
We got in the AV3 again, some of you may remember this shoe because it was out awhile ago but fit a little strange but Vans fixed that and made a few very minor design changes. Now this shoe fits like a glove and has to be the grippiest shoe on the wall. Also it has an amazing insole in it which can be seen below.
Thick eva insole with an amazing gel insert on the heel that is sure to keep your feet happy all day. You get to skate a Vans shoe and not destroy your feet? Yes sir.
We also just got in a bunch of Baker decks, I have to say, their graphic design department is stepping it up a lot and not just doing logo boards and Neckface graphics anymore (although they still do that stuff too...)

I usually wouldn't post contest footage but some of this is really rad. Dylan Rieder, Peter Ramondetta, Eric Koston, Nick Dompierre, and others all in a contest together? It makes for a good watch and honestly I would rather watch the qualifiers because I don't believe those guys made it into the finals. Give this a watch.

Apparently the new Carroll 5 by Lakai is out of control... Never had this happen when I put on shoes but I am assuming they are good for skateboarding. Clean looking shoe with tons of boardfeel and a really good flick. Check out a pair, we have them in grey.

Eastern Boarder Danvers is proud to welcome Tim Coolidge to the team. Tim is one of our youngest guys (at age 16) but don't let that make you think he isn't ripping, he has the transition skills for sure, and at his age he has plenty of time to continue on progressing and put all of us to shame. We are all excited to see what the future holds for him and it is more than safe to say that he is a great addition to the team! Keep it up Tim.

Emerica has been killing it super hard with these B-Side edits of their riders. Personally I wish they put all of this stuff on the dvd of Stay Gold as a bonus feature but if it is free online who can complain. Herman is amazing so obviously watch this now. Also I really hope there is a B-Side of Heath and Reynolds, but especially Heath, can't get enough of footage of him so that would be incredible, but also it would be rad to see the stuff that Reynolds didn't use...

I know 12 minutes seems long but it is well worth the watch. I was a little doubtful about this kid until his part came out in Stay Gold and he destroyed it, one of the gnarliest rail skaters in the game right now and this video just solidifies that fact even further. Also, one of the longest front feebles ever is in this.

New All premium leather Popps shoe. They may look like they are just for going out in but they are definitely skate-able, super soft leather. amazing.

All-Suede Slip ons! The best shoe ever just got better. If you have not skated a pair of slip ons then get on it because you are missing out. Oh yea, and a new chukka low color... Black suede, you cannot go wrong.

Two new Era colors, one is an era pro and one is just a normal era. We have tons of other new vans that are not pictured so get in here and get in a pair.

Anyway, they seem really popular with kids these days so they are worth checking out. In all seriousness these are some really well made shoes and if you haven't skated a pair of Blazers you are legitimately blowing it. Amazing, very durable shoes with classic styling.

Mike Barker is rad, this guy always puts out really good parts that are fun to watch and that make you want to go skate (this part is no exception). Watch this part and then go skate!

This is Nik Stain's part from a video called Totally Nector. If you get a chance watch the other parts in this because it is a seriously good local skate video. If you remember Nik was on SLAP's One in a Million, he rips, this part is awesome and I hope we get to see more of him in the future.

Austyn Gillette is Habitat's newest pro. This kid is insanely good, proper style, solid tricks, and all while going super fast. He deserves it for sure.

This is his pro debut commercial (if you wanna call it that, it is just a bunch of rad footage).

Also for good measure here is his part from Origin, Habitat's last video. Watch and learn kids. Alley-oop grinds in general are no joke, especially at full speed. This kid rules.

If you are going to watch any skate contest at all this year this is the one to watch, it's not on MTV or ESPN or ABC and it doesn't have a million dollar prize but it is easily the best one out there, also who cares about big corporate conglomerates sponsoring a skate event (that has never been what it is about, maybe it is a perk to the winners but that is about it)... The guys at Skatepark of Tampa kill it, end of story, There is a reason that all of the best pros skate this contest. Guys who you don't see at every Dew Tour stop or even any other contest in general; Brian Anderson, Koston, Dave Bachinsky, Austyn Gillette, and so many others. If I were you I wouldn't miss it. Product Nerd: Shoe Edition.

With this post I wanted to spotlight some of the better and more unique shoes on the wall at the shop right now. These shoes aren't the ones blending in, they all skate great and last. If you have skated any of these shoes you already know, and if you haven't, we recommend checking a pair out while they last. You will not regret it. Also, with Spring and Summer right around the corner you know that you need a new pair of shoes.
First up: the Etnies Barci. This shoe doesn't look like anything else on the wall right now for a few reasons; for one it is a cupsole, for all of you cupsole naysayers out there give it a try before you knock it because these are more flexible right out of the box than 99% of the vulcanized models we have right now, second, they have a fairly complex side detail but they don't look kooky at all, and third, the entire Etnies team is riding these right now and it is for a reason. These shoes last; no toecap stitching to blow out, a well made cupsole that doesn't bald before the lifespan of the shoe is up, and decent padding (but not an excessive amount). Try these out, I bet you will be impressed.
Second up: the Gravis Filter TT. This shoe may look simple but trust me it is far from it. The "TT" in the name stands for "Tec-Tuff" which is that kind of mesh-looking material on the toecap, it may seem like some weird synthetic material that would skate all weird but that material is actually just a treated leather that is extremely abrasion resistant and strangely enough still breathable and flexible. This shoe also has the normal Gravis Cloud 9 insoles that are a godsend, this may look like the last shoe that you would want to do any serious skating in but that insole will keep your feet happy for hours. The final thing that makes this shoe stand out is the sole, the tread pattern on these bad-boys is a super deep herringbone pattern that is really grippy and lasts forever, I know I have skated this shoe several times and the grip always lasts as long as the shoe does. For anybody who skates, you know how much it sucks when your shoe goes bald too early so you definitely don't have to worry about it with these. What it comes down to is that these filters are sneaky, they are deceptively one of the most well made shoes on the wall and they look like they would probably only last a few sessions, I vouche for these 100% and I bet if you skate a pair you will too.
Third up: the Vans Chukka low. Not much needs to be said about these hogs, they are classic. Half of the shoes out today have borrowed something design wise from these and it is for a reason. The Chukka low is a durable shoe with great boardfeel that skates super well and guess what? We just got it in a black and gum colorway! If you haven't tried a pair of these until now it is safe to say you are missing out. Skate a pair of these and get psyched!
